Ku De Ta at The Liberty Hotel

Jack's always had a fondness for making music videos, dj/vj that he is; and Lauren and I have a strong affection for clothes and design; so fashion cinematography is a natural direction for our studio.
Ku De Ta in South Boston found us through the Liberty and hired us to film their recent Thursday Night at The Liberty fashion show. The Lobby bar in the Rotunda at the Liberty gets packed around 10 PM, and while a dj pumped out the beat, models strutted the "catwalk" tiers circling the Lobby bar; descended and ascended mirrored escalators;mingled with the crowd; and posed atop the concierge's desk.

That and a big follow spot made for amazing film shots. Jack just put it all together today in 2 dazzling fashion film clips. You can check out the short version http://www.vimeo.com/8003877 or find the longer version below it on our Vimeo site. BTW check out the clothes for real at Ku De Ta in South Boston. Nicole and Heather are SUPER great to work with, and obviously the clothes are HOT!

The "Down Time" of my year???

Usually those of us in the wedding business consider Winter to be the "down time" of our year. A good time to take a quick vacation. People I know are taking 2 weeks in Jamaica or an 8 night Caribbean cruise. Not here in the GENERATIONS studio.
Just when we finish filming Fall weddings, we're busy editing trailers, highlights and full-length films of various sizes. Then we're filming Fall fashion shows and being offered all kinds of unexpected and interesting projects like the Style Me Pretty Inspiration Board #5 Project.
Our studio is growing as a tight, creative collaborative. Our former interns have become valued staff, and our part-time staff are now partners. There's something inherently energizing about spending days in a creative incubator surrounded by inspired artists. We all support each other's creativity and productivity. Our studio is a real expression of the idea that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
Joe, an outgoing intern, and incoming free-lance staffer, did a great job editing Angela and Evans. The wedding was at Rosecliff in Newport RI, created by our wonderful friend and colleague, Alexis Eliopoulos O'mara of Unique WEddings by Alexis; Photography by LifeFusion; Gorgeous lighting by Tony Ormonde. Angela and Evans were a totally fun, over-the-top kind of couple, who loved the camera and the camera loved them! We can't wait to start working on their full-length wedding film!!

Tanya and Chris

Tanya and Chris' wedding at the Intercontinental Hotel was spectacular. Gorgeous decor and florals by John LaRoche of Blue Guava. Fabulous wedding dress. Great music by our friend and colleague, Greg Hodges of 5 Star Events. Once again, it was a total blast working with Marina and E from LifeFusion Photography.
Tanya was cool, Chris was HOT, the party started late and once it got started it rocked! Actually, the first dance set the tone for the evening as you can see, with Chris really surprising the always-in-control bride Tanya with a surprise break-out dance number. I have no doubt that his groom will keep his bride charmed and entertained after a long day of work for many years to come!

Bye-Bye- November

More turkey - but isn't that the idea about all the Thanksgiving cooking? To make enough food not to have to cook for a while?
Just carved up most of the big bird. Ate another plate of turkey gravy stuffing and sweet potato/carrot mousse flavored with clementine. The last on the plate is a bi-annual creation that changes from year to year depending on my mood and what's around the house. But it's always orange, sweet and tart. Yum.

Enough l-tryptophan to nap between snacking. Friday after the holiday is always a nothing day. Nothing scheduled. A bonus day with no name on my calendar. No commitments or projects. Nothing to do but veg. and eat.

Thanksgiving Musings...

It's Thanksgiving once again.Seems like just yesterday it was last Thanksgiving. It's one holiday I have always loved/hated. Love the food. Love the idea of it. ANd hated...maybe too strong a word - maybe cringed about the fact that since I was actually born on Thanksgiving, and my birthday falls on Thanksgiving every few years or so, my mother always wanted to celebrate the two events together. My sister felt that her Thanksgiving became MY holiday, and was none too happy about it. Hard to blame her. Why did I get presents on Thanksgiving and she didn't??
The real reason, I figured out early on, was that celebrating the two holidays on the same day, saved my mother from making another celebration dinner, and it also gave my mother reason to retell her classic story of about how she had just slid the turkey into the oven when she went into labor with me and after all that culinary effort, couldn't even enjoy the meal!
I'm just now wondering why they didn't bring her a platter of food the next day, or if they did, whether she left that out of the story for greater dramatic impact. The story always ended with her half-jokingly deriding me for depriving her of her Thanksgiving dinner.
So today I puttered around our dysfunctional kitchen, making organic sweet potato, carrot and clementine pie; a big 16lb turkey stuffed with lots of herbs and cranberries and walnuts; a bowl of perfect, tiny fresh brussel sprouts which I picked up at Trader Joe's still attached to the stem - and I'm not sure what for dessert yet. I did remember to get lots of wine.
Thanksgiving is an open house in the evening for us. We spend the day getting it together, then are surprised by who of our friends show up. Our daughter and some of her friends usually appear. Various friends needing some relaxation after a day spent with family often show up to nibble and drink. My sister and her dog will be here. And some of our studio staff may drop in as well.
It's a happy Thanksgiving here today. We have amazing friends. We love our work, and the studio is growing in every way. We work with and learn from the most brilliant event artists around and are grateful to the wonderful people who hire us to document their lives and celebrations. We are thankful, beyond measure, for everyone who has touched our lives and for the countless ways in which we are blessed.
